Shadow Ministry

Opposition Leader Mike Nahan has announced changes to his Shadow Ministry following the election of Darling Range MLA, Alyssa Hayden.

Mrs Hayden will be taking on the responsibility of Shadow Minister for Community Services; Youth; Seniors and Ageing; Volunteering.

Dr Nahan said Mrs Hayden was well qualified and experienced to represent West Australians across these portfolios.

“Alyssa is an experienced Parliamentarian and proved during the Darling Range by-election her ability to consult with the community, listen to their concerns and speak up on their behalf,” Dr Nahan said.

“Not only will Alyssa make an outstanding local member for Darling Range, I’m looking forward to her making a strong contribution as a Shadow Minister and holding the McGowan Government to account.”

Dr Nahan said Tjorn Sibma, who previously held the portfolios taken on by Mrs Hayden, has been appointed Shadow Minister for Government Accountability and Procurement; Public Sector Integrity and Performance; Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader for Public Sector Management; and Shadow Minister for Veterans Issues.

“This will be a very important role,” Dr Nahan said.

“Already, we are seeing the DNA of Labor Governments past coming to the fore in the McGowan Government.

“There is a lack of transparency and accountability, the politicisation of the public service, cash for access to Ministers, Ministers failing to accept responsibility for their portfolios and a failure of Cabinet to oversee important contracts.

“Tjorn has an important role in keeping the McGowan Government to account in these very important areas.”
