Opposition welcomes new Police Commissioner
The State Opposition has welcomed the State’s new Police Commissioner Chris Dawson, who officially took up his position this week.
Shadow Police Minister Peter Katsambanis said Commissioner Dawson was highly credentialed and had the full support of the Opposition.
“I would like to congratulate Commissioner Dawson and register my disappointment at the State Government’s inability to resolve its current pay dispute with the WA Police before the Commissioner’s commencement,” Mr Katsambanis said.
“The Opposition is concerned the new Commissioner is taking up his role at a time when there is continuing uncertainty around funding for WA Police, especially for frontline services.
“The State Government owes it to the new Commissioner to ensure WA Police are adequately funded, including ensuring officers receive the 1.5 per cent pay increase Labor promised them before and after the State Election.”
Mr Katsambanis called on Treasurer Ben Wyatt to commit to ensure funding for WA Police in the upcoming State Budget matched his Government’s election promises and was sufficient to ensure frontline police services across Western Australia would not be eroded.”
