September 4, 2018 McGowan Government must reverse all education cuts Shadow Minister for Education Donna Faragher has called on the McGowan Government to reverse all remaining education cuts following the Federal Liberal Government’s decision to provide $8.7 million in capital funding to ensure the future of Moora Residential College. “This decision leaves the McGowan Government with no reason to not reverse its other mean-spirited education cuts to Landsdale Farm School, the Agricultural Education Farms Provision Trust Fund; community kindergartens, Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre, camp schools and other organisations unfairly impacted,” Mrs Faragher said. “The Liberal Opposition welcomes the Morrison Government’s announcement which fixes the mess created by Education Minister Sue Ellery and the McGowan Labor Government. “The decision to close Moora Residential College should have never been made in the first place. “The distress the McGowan Government has caused to the students attending Moora Residential College and their families should never have happened. “It has taken a significant community effort to highlight the importance of the college to the Moora community and it is outrageous the McGowan Government has consistently ignored their concerns. “The benefits of keeping Moora Residential College open were both significant and obvious and it should not have taken so long for the McGowan Government to reverse their decision, albeit thanks to the intervention of the Morrison Government. “Today’s announcement is a fantastic outcome after so many months of campaigning by the Moora community and everyone who has been against this terrible decision. “I congratulate the Moora community, and West Australians from across the state, who have argued so strongly to keep the College open. Mrs Faragher said the distress experienced by the Moora community is still being felt by communities impacted by the McGowan Government’s other cuts and the McGowan Government needed to immediately reverse these cuts as well. “There is absolutely no excuse for the Government to not act now and reverse the other cuts,” Mrs Faragher said.
