Consultation on gold royalty increase
The State Opposition will not be pressured by the McGowan Labor Government into rolling over and allowing them to simply break election promises, Shadow Minister for Economic Development; Mines and Petroleum, Sean L’Estrange said today.
Mr L’Estrange said he is visiting Kalgoorlie today and, with the local Member for Kalgoorlie, Kyran O’Donnell, will discuss the Labor Government’s proposed gold royalty increase with those affected.
“Our focus is on the impact of increases to the gold royalty on jobs, exploration and investment.
“We will be listening to industry and seeking their feedback on how the current proposed McGowan-Labor Government royalty increases will impact mine exploration, development, operations, jobs and investment.
“I encourage Premier McGowan and his Treasurer to do as we are doing, and to listen to industry and the people most affected.
“I am concerned the gold royalty increase will be counterproductive, and rather than increase revenue, it could stop mining operations, stop investment and destroy jobs.
"The Liberal Opposition will watch closely for any change in position by the McGowan-Labor Government. We will continue to listen to the Gold Mining sector as to the impact of any finalised Labor government Gold Royalty changes,” Mr L’Estrange said.
