Changes to Shadow Ministry

Opposition Leader Mike Nahan today announced changes to the Shadow Ministry.

Shadow Minister for Environment; Water and Member for the South West, Steve Thomas will take on the additional role of Shadow Minister for Emergency Services.

Dr Nahan said the most recent devastating fires to impact Western Australia were in the south west and great southern regions, and Mr Thomas was well placed to engage with local communities and stakeholders in developing policy, which also impacted the environment portfolio.

Former Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Ken Baston takes on a new role as Shadow Minister for Northern Australia.

“There are significant state investments in Western Australia’s north, and it is important there is a strong focus on the outcomes being achieved from those investments and the Government not abandoning these projects

“Our north is also the economic powerhouse of the nation and we need to support these industries and their ongoing development and investments in the north.

“A dedicated Minister is required for this important region,” Dr Nahan said.

Member for Dawesville, Zak Kirkup will take on the role of Shadow Minister for Corrective Services.

“Zak has been an energetic and hard-working member since he was first elected in March. He has a particular passion for improving opportunities for and reducing recidivism by young offenders.

“Peter Katsambanis continues with a substantial workload including Shadow Minister for Police; Road Safety; Industrial Relations and representing the Shadow Attorney General and Minister for Commerce in the Legislative Assembly.”
